It was started to build at the beginning of 9 century and completed after 300 years. From the top of the fortress with its 6 meters hight, you can have a panoramic view of Leiden. 

Japan museum SieboldHuis

Have you ever heard about Siebold? He was a German doctor whom Dutch let in charge of staying in Japan to collect information. 

In this museum rebuilt from where Siebold used to live, precious Japanese historical stuff he brought from Japan are on display. 

National Museum of Antiquities

This museum houses full of antiquities from all over the world such as Egypt, Greece and Rome. 

The birthplace of Rembrandt

Rembrandt, one of well-known artist, was born in Leiden, 1606. He had lived there until he moved to Amsterdam in 1631. Although the house where Rembrandt used to live doesn’t exist, still there is the trace of it as Rembrandtpark. Next to this park, there is a plate showing the birthplace of Rembrandt, and his statue of his early days facing canvas. 

Hortus Botanicus 

Hortus Botanicus is one of the most oldest botanical garden in the world. The most remarkable part of it is tropical plants. When you are there, you will feel as if you were in a real jungle.

Gouda must-do list for your trip

Gouda is a city where its cheese is absolutely famous. Even if you don’t know the cheese, you may have eaten it at least once, because it’s not overrated to say Gouda cheese is the most eaten cheese in the world. 

Cheese market

Cheese market takes place in Marktplein only on every Thursday from April to September. The best time to visit is 10 am as it starts at the same time and it can get a bit crowd afterwards. In that way you can get a spot in the front row to see the market going on.

Waag

Waag is a place where several products such as cheese used to be weighted. Now this place is used for tourism information center, cheese shop and cheese museum on the second floor. 

Saint-John Church

Saint-John Church (NL: Sint.Janskerk) is the longest church in Netherlands. Its length is 123 meters. Inside this church, there is an organ concert taking place on every Saturday. It starts at 4 pm and lasts for 1 hour. 

Cheese shop

There are cheese shops everywhere in Gouda. Among them, the shop called Kaaswinkeltje is recommended. Gouda cheese goes with other ingredients such as truffle, paprika and whatever. They have many kinds of arranged cheese as well as pure ones.

Gouda Cheese Experience

This is a museum all about cheese especially Gouda cheese. There is exhibitions on how cheese is made, how much amount of cheese is consumed and whatever trivia comes from cheese. At last you can have a free tasting of several kinds of cheese sorted out according to their age so that you can compare one with others. 

Kamphuisen

You shouldn’t pass up the most popular sweet in Netherlands, stroopwafle, which originates in Gouda. Kamphuisen is a stroopwafle specialty shop with its own factory in the same building.

If you buy a ticket, you can go inside the factory to admire stroopwafles being produced. At the end of the tour, they give you a fresh made stroopwafle for each person.

Delft must-do list for your trip

Delft is a little charming city located between The Hague and Rotterdam. This city is famous for “Delft blue” which is a kind of pottery developed in Delft dating back to 17 century. It is also known as the birthplace of Johannes Vermeer. Although Delft has enough of attraction, this city itself still has an old city view of mediaeval time and prefect for waking around. 

Royal Delft

This is a museum all about “Delft blue” with a factory in practice. Their potteries are on display along with their history. Among them, there is the “Night Watch” made of pottery.

In the end of your visit, you can have a look of how “Delft blue” is made in the specific factory. There, professional workers engage themselves in producing its delicate pottery by hand. There is also a cafe inside the museum where you can enjoy some coffee served with a real “Delft blue”. 

Blue Heart

Blue Heart (NL: Blauwe Hart) is in the city center right next to New church. Its blue comes from the image of “Delft blue”, which is the symbol of this city. 

Old Church

Take a closer look! This old church (NL:Oude Kerk) is apparently leaning. In the course of construction, it turned out that the ground isn’t strong enough. However, construction was carried on and this church became as it looks like now.

Vermeer Centrum Delft

Johannes Vermeer, who is one of the most well known artist in the world, is from Delft. In this museum, replicas of all the arts by Vermeer are shown in the order of history. Vermeer is known as the Master of light, as he was good at expressing lights in different ways. That said, they also have an exhibition of how the lights work in his arts. 

Museum Prinsenhof Delft

Do you ever know the founder of Netherlands ? His name is Willem I. He contributed to protecting Netherlands from Spain and building up its country. Thus, he is considered to be the origin of the kingdom of Netherlands. Unfortunately, he was murdered right here in 1584. Its actual bullet hole still remains. The main part of this museum isn’t only this, but they have full of exhibitions about the history of Netherlands.

Utrecht must-do list for your trip

This place is known as the favorite pastry shop of Nijntje author, Dick Bruna. There are many tasty nostalgic pastries on sale. In particular, they have cookies and chocolates with motif of Miffy. 

Museum Speelklok

The word speelklok means musical clock. Here you can witness a lot of mobile musical box that used to be used in the past. These are some times played, so you could listen to it in practice. 

Restaurant on the canal 

It is well known that Netherlands, most of its land is below sea level and thus they have countless water place such as canal. Utrecht isn’t an exception.

That being said, the best part of Utrecht trip is admiring canals. There are a lot of restaurants along the canal. You can choose Italian, French, Chinese, Indian… whatever you want. 

Apple ball

Apple ball is a sweet originally from Utrecht. This is a pie with a whole apple inside. Netherlands is rich in apples and thanks to that, they have many apple products such as apple pie, apple juice…

However, apple ball alone can be seen only in Utrecht. If you visit Utrecht, you must try it once. Graaf Floris Café Restaurant is the most recommended place for apple ball. 

Castle De Haar

This is the biggest castle in Netherlands located on the outskirts of Utrecht. Take a train for 10 minutes and transfer to a bus for 15 minutes then you will get there. You can admire its beautiful outlook as well as the inside.

Stroopwafle

Stroopwafle is a typical dutch sweet. Amazing combination of crunchy texture and sweet syrup must make you satisfied.

They are found everywhere but I recommend Albert Cuyp Street. This is the largest market in Amsterdam, which takes place from Monday to Saturday. There, you can get fresh made stroopwafle.

Helpful tip: you have to keep the waffle flat!, otherwise syrup spill out.

Canal cruise

Amsterdam has 165 canals that make this city so beautiful. Especially, its city-view from canal is splendid.

There are many options of which canal boat you get from large to private. I recommend a little open boat tour. You can feel city close by while learning interesting trivia from interactive conversation with staff.

A’DAM Tower

Are you looking for some unforgettable experience? Then, A’DAM Tower is the best place. This building is tall enough to admire a whole view of Amsterdam. On top of that, they have a special swing by which you can enjoy as if you were flying in the sky. 

Cheese 

Netherlands is famous for its cheese. Especially Gouda cheese is the most popular one. That being said, you can find cheese shops every 3 min by walk in the city center. They have lots kinds of free tasting. Just try and find your own favorite cheese.
